Lowland Park Performance Index
The Lowland Park Performance Index is our on-farm selection tool for identifying cattle that best fit our breeding objectives. It brings together growth, frame efficiency, carcase performance, fertility, temperament and progeny performance, rather than selecting on any single trait.
It is not an EBV or a breed-wide ranking. It is simply a practical way of comparing cattle within our own herd using the information we record.
How the index works
The index is built around a balanced breeding objective — not a single-trait race. Growth matters, but so do frame efficiency, carcase quality, fertility and function, temperament, and the performance of an animal’s progeny.
Animals are compared at similar ages wherever possible, and missing information is never treated as a zero. As more performance and progeny data becomes available, our confidence in an animal’s index increases.

Female benchmark — Lowland Park Trinity = Index 100
Bull benchmark — Lowland Park Uprising = Index 100
What the scores mean
100 — performance comparable with the relevant Lowland Park benchmark.
Above 100 — stronger overall performance against our breeding objectives.
Below 100 — lower overall performance against those objectives.
The score is balanced across multiple traits. A higher score does not simply mean a bigger or heavier animal.
Reliability
High — strong performance history with good supporting data.
Medium — useful performance information is available, but some components are incomplete.
Low — limited comparable information; the score should be treated as provisional.
Missing information is never scored as zero. As more growth, carcase, fertility and progeny information becomes available, the reliability of an animal’s index can increase.

The Index is updated as new performance information becomes available. Rankings may change as cattle mature and additional carcase, fertility and progeny information is recorded.
A work in progress
The Performance Index will continue to evolve as we collect more information and learn from the cattle themselves. Young animals are followed as they grow, carcase information is added when available, and progeny performance becomes increasingly important as breeding animals mature.
The purpose is not to create perfect numbers. It is to ask better questions, make better breeding decisions, and keep improving the cattle we produce.
