Why Tassie matters
Tassie combines the moderate mature size we seek with strong growth, structural soundness and proven carcase quality. His greatest value to our programme is increasingly being seen through his progeny, particularly the consistency and performance of his daughters.
The Lowland Park Herd
Our herd brings together proven females, selected sires and their developing progeny, with each generation assessed for performance under our conditions.
Proven Females
The strength of our breeding programme begins with the cow herd. These females have earned their place through fertility, maternal performance, sound structure and the ability to raise calves that perform under our grass-based system.
Unity — A proven maternal female combining fertility, capacity and consistent calf performance
Uppercut — A productive Lowland Park female demonstrating the growth and maternal ability we seek.
Luna — A proven foundation female whose influence continues through some of our strongest young cattle.
Developing Females
These younger females represent the next stage of our breeding programme and are being assessed as they develop for growth, structure and future breeding performance.
Outfitter — A promising young female showing growth, capacity and useful early development.
Orthodox — From the proven Trinity maternal line, combining pedigree strength with encouraging early development.
Orange — A promising daughter of First Red, being retained and assessed for growth, structure and future breeding performance.
Proven Sires
Our proven sires are selected for measured performance, fertility, structural soundness and the ability to produce functional cattle under our grass-based system. Their longer-term value is assessed through the performance of their progeny.
Tassie — A proven sire combining moderate mature size, exceptional structural soundness, fertility and consistently excellent temperament.
Uprising — A powerful, larger-framed sire combining exceptional growth, carcase performance and outstanding temperament.
Ultimate — The fastest-growing Lowline bred at Lowland Park, retained in our breeding programme through semen collected for future use.
Developing Sires
These young bulls are being assessed for growth, structure, fertility, temperament and overall breeding potential. Particular emphasis is placed on developing functional Lowline sires for both stud breeding and New Zealand dairy-beef systems, where calving ease, gestation length, growth and carcase performance are important. They will earn their longer-term place through measured performance and, ultimately, the performance of their progeny.

Measured Performance
The Lowland Park breeding programme is built around measurement. Growth, mature size, fertility, structure, temperament and carcase performance are recorded and used alongside visual assessment to guide breeding decisions. Our cattle are expected to prove their place through performance, not pedigree alone.
Performance in Practice
Performance is measured throughout an animal’s development, rather than judged at a single point in time. We record growth and hip height at key stages, alongside fertility, gestation length, temperament, structural soundness and carcase information where available. Mature females are also assessed for their ability to maintain productive weight and consistently raise a useful calf.
Performance Benchmarks
Our key development targets are:
200 days — 170 kg and 1,000 mm hip height
15 months — 305 kg and 1,084 mm hip height
24 months — approximately 400 kg pre-calving and 1,133 mm hip height
What are we breeding for?
Our objective is a functional New Zealand bred Lowline that combines strong growth with moderate mature size, sound structure, fertility, excellent temperament and useful carcase performance. Cattle must perform efficiently from grass and females must retain the maternal ability to consistently raise a good calf. For suitable sire lines, we also assess the traits required for New Zealand dairy-beef systems.
Proven by the next generation
The real test of a breeding programme is what each generation produces next. Our sires and females are assessed not only on their own performance, but on whether their progeny maintain or improve growth, structure, fertility, temperament and carcase performance. Successful genetic lines are retained and developed; those that consistently fall short are not.
